It’s All In the Details: The Chapel

A Case Study

There’s more to The Chapel than meets the eye. While we’re attentive to all details of every project, The Chapel required meticulous problem solving to overcome unique challenges. Historic chapels and churches were built without modern day code requirement. When building The Chapel, we were tasked with building a classic chapel that mimics the look of a historic chapel, but meets code requirements. A sprinkler system must be present in a building that can accommodate 300 or more people. However, a sprinkler system in plain sight would deduct from the beauty of the chapel’s ceiling.

To create optimal lighting for wedding ceremonies and other special events, an extensive lighting system had to be installed. However, an exposed ceiling complicates concealing light fixtures and wires.

These unique problems required extreme deliberation and attention to detail to accomplish a desired outcome. The sprinklers are concealed within the architectural beams to not compromise the visual aesthetic. Light fixtures were carefully placed on particular locations of the radius timber trusses, so as guests walk in, they are not in plain sight. Electrical wiring was run in conduits within the roofing envelope makeup and penetrated the structural ceiling at each exact fixture location.

We’re extremely proud of this completed design build project and we look forward to watching this unique space serve the local community for weddings and other special events!
