Exploring the Fremaux Self Storage Facility

Join us on a tour of the Fremaux Self Storage Facility, where practical planning and innovation come together. Ellen Heck, Senior Superintendent at Kent Design Build, will walk you through the design, construction, and unique features of this project.

The Fremaux Self Storage Facility covers three acres, with a whopping 93% of the site covered in concrete. This sturdy foundation is all about making sure the facility lasts.

Using a design-build approach, guided by project manager Jake Palmisano, the project smoothly moved from planning to completion. Ellen Heck, our Senior Superintendent, shares how we made it all come together without a hitch.

One challenge we encountered involved installing two large signs on the building. The complexity arose from our waterproofing system not aligning with the conventional installation methods. Usually, signs go up after everything’s done, but not for us. We decided to install the sign's studs early, making sure it looks great without messing up the waterproofing.

Ellen describes the waterproofing process as a choreographed routine involving robust studs and waterproofing materials preceding the application of the stucco system. This meticulous process not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also fortifies the structural integrity of the construction.

Inside, there are seven rooftop units keeping the place just right. No need for visible ducts, saving us time and money. The lights even turn on as you walk in, helping us save energy.

Fremaux Self Storage Facility isn’t just a storage place; it’s a result of good ideas coming to life. Ellen Heck demonstrates our approach to overcoming challenges while creating practical and aesthetically pleasing solutions. Join us on this tour celebrating how Fremaux Self Storage brings together function and style.
