First Baptist Church Denham Springs Addition // It’s All in the Details
Growth often requires expansion! In 2016, Kent Design Build completed First Baptist Church Denham Springs, a 40 acre, 43,309 sq ft worship facility development. We recently completed an approximately 18,000 sq ft addition to the existing church. The additional space houses children's classrooms, large group children’s worship venues, an expanded lobby, and an outdoor courtyard.
The addition is frequently referred to as the “Children’s Addition” because much of the space is dedicated to space for kids of all ages, investing in the next generation. Right off the main church lobby, there is now a children’s lobby dedicated to a secure check-in. Past the lobby, there are wide hallways to prevent congestion on Sundays. The hallway is lined with one-way windows that allow parents to look inside the classrooms and check on their child, while the child can’t see them. In these classrooms, we considered many functional details required to create effective learning spaces.
There are two large group worship venues for children, one is for preschoolers and the other is for elementary children. Each worship venue is designed for children’s ministries. The venues are equipped with large TVs and sound equipment for worship services.
The expanded lobby includes a cafe-type setting with a coffee bar and casual seating. Church members can gather in this space for relational connections. The ceiling clouds provide a modern look, but functionally improve the acoustics in the room.
Right behind the expanded lobby is a new courtyard. The courtyard serves as a relational space for outdoor gatherings. The cross in the center of the courtyard marks the center of the campus. It’s a beautiful outdoor space that can be used for worship services, gatherings, cookouts, etc.
Phase 1 of this project began with developing the church relocation, and phase 2 (the expansion) is now complete. We’re honored to serve this repeat client to achieve the church’s needs. We look forward to serving them in future phases as they continue to grow.
